'…
the only thing that will curtail drivers’ speed is when drivers’
licences are affected, or the money in their pockets. Clearly the
police cannot be on hand day and night to patrol our traffic, but cameras
are definitely the best deterrent. One need look no further than
Willington Street as evidence of this. Another way which could assist
is for all villagers, young and old, to join a Village campaign to keep
to the speed limits throughout the village. This would certainly
slow traffic for at least some of the time.'

| Police check |
A
speed check by the Kent Police Constabulary was carried out on Tuesday
morning, 18.9.07, on the A274. In Langley the A274 has a speed restriction
of 40mph (build up residential area, Church, Nursery etc.) but cars
and HGVs frequently drive dangerously at high speeds and break the law.
The 'Static Roadside Speedcheck' took place near the vicinity of Langley
Church and involved a group of police officers (PS Nick Hayes, PC Debbie
Cummings, PC Marc Pennicott and our PC Stuart Thomas).
During the 45 minute check the police issued 3 warnings and 3 speeding
tickets (for speeding in excess of 50mph). One van driver was stopped
driving in excess of 60mph.
