Local Incidents! Can you help?
Mid Kent Police (Maidstone) would like to ask for your help by making you aware of the following incidents

URGENT APPEAL
Please keep a look out for Maddie a 12 year old yorkshire terrier dog who ran off after being spooked by fireworks in ME17 area Sutton Valence.

Owners need help to find her as she has IBS and needs medication. She will rummage any bins if able to. Owner is worried she will not be found alive in time.

She is a small dog with gold/brown and grey fur. She is wearing a red material collar. She could be taking refuge in any places like garages or sheds so please check all areas during the day.

Euromillions Lottery Scam
It has come to our attention that a few people from differant parts of Maidstone have received a letter purporting to be from the Euromillions Lottery. It comes from Spain and says that you have won a large amount of money and it is being held by a security company. Also, they ask that you keep this to yourself, for security reasons. There is an attached claim form that asks you all your personal information including bank details.

This letter is a scam and obviously a way of getting your personal details and I would advise that you dispose of the letter and ignore it. You should always be cautious about giving any of your details to people you don't know, whether by post, on the phone or at the door. I have sent copies of the office of Fair Trading who I am sure will look in to the matter.

Latest update on missing Faversham woman,
Anne Gregory

Following our appeal for help to find missing 81 year old Faversham woman, Anne Gregory, Kent Police want to thank the public and the local community for their support and assistance with the search for Anne.

Although Anne is still missing, the team have received a number of new leads in the last 24 hours from calls into the police station and through information given to officers as part of the house to house inquiries around Faversham. The team are currently following up several new lines of inquiry, but are still appealing for the public to come forward with any information or possible sightings of Anne.

We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have used the bus or rail network since Saturday 25 October and who may have seen Anne.

We would still encourage all local residents to check around their properties for anywhere Anne could have sought shelter

We are also appealing to anyone who may work in hospitals, refuges, charities, who may have had contact with Anne or with someone who matches Anne's description since she went missing. It is also possible that Anne could be using her maiden name — Anne Frith.

Whilst it is important to be vigilant, remember Kent is a safe place to live, work & visit...
As the force lead on Crime Reduction here in Kent, I would like to set your mind at ease, following recent 'spoof' emails, that have circulated far and wide. The email I refer to is one Warning people of Car Hijacking! This has instantly put the fear of crime into the forefront of peoples minds unnecessarily. Car Hijacking is very rare to say the least and is not a problem here in Kent.
However I would advise that if people are worried about this for any reason whilst out driving, they should consider the following.

Firstly, before setting off...

Do not leave hand bags, brief cases, lap tops, or other valuables on show.

Consider locking the doors whilst driving in unknown areas.

When filling up your car at a Petrol Station, make sure you lock the doors and leave it secure whilst you go to Pay.

The same applies if you're quickly stopping off to pick up a paper or milk.

When parking your vehicle in the town centre, park in a busy place where you can been seen and are not alone — Better still look out for the Safer Parking — Park Mark sign, which is a security approved parking facility.

Be aware of new car-jacking scheme
You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. Then you lock all your doors, start the engine and shift or put into reverse. You look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space and you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.
So, you shift the gear stick back into park or neutral, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper or whatever it is that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car that is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off!!
Your engine was running, you would have left your purse in the car and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED IN GLASGOW AND MANCHESTER AND IS MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!

Just drive away and remove the paper later! It is stuck to your
Window and be thankful that you read this email. I hope you will forward this to friends and family especially to women! A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!! I have been sent this warning and asked that it be distributed widely to alert everyone -

JUST BE AWARE AND TAKE CARE IT WILL PROBABLY SOON ARRIVE IN YOUR AREA

Rogue traders advertising tarmaccing
This is a warning from Trading Standards. There have been traders going door to door in the Maidstone area dropping leaflets advertising tarmaccing. They were an elderly couple the man was in his 80's and was over 6 foot tall. There was also a younger man who was doing the tarmacing who is described as in his 40's, stocky build and also over six foot tall. They were driving a blue open back lorry. When people had work done it was to a poor standard. If you do require work on your property take time to get quotes, get the
quotes in writing and use a trader who has been recommended to you. If in doubt please ring Consumer Direct for advise
