Bogus caller scams
This is a joint crime and community message from Maidstone & District Neighbourhood Watch and Mid Kent Maidstone Police. We would like to inform you of the following information for your area.

We would like to warn you about the following tactics being used as cold calling ploys.

A number of residents in Charing have had traders call and offer to tarmac their driveways. They claimed to be from Kent Highway services. Please note that this would not happen, as they cannot offer work to individuals.

We are still getting bogus charity bags being delivered around town. The intention is for you to fill them with unwanted good, which will be sold on for a profit to them. Make sure you are giving to a genuine charity. You can check the details of a registered charity by contacting the Charity Commission on 0845 3000 218 or by the website www.charity-commission.gov.uk.

There have been some bogus callers to consumers pretending to be from a local GP surgery. They give the impression they are from the NHS and ask what medication you are taking. In one incident a consumer was persuaded to buy some new tablets and £179.50 was debited from their credit card.

Please apply caution when dealing with any unknown caller at the door or on the phone. If we can work together to stop people like this from profiting from these ploys they will hopefully stop it in the future.

If you have any information in connection with any of these messages or you would like to talk to anyone please call Lorraine on 01622 604395.

Garden ornaments
This is a joint crime and community message from Maidstone & District Neighbourhood Watch and Mid Kent Maidstone Police. We would like to inform you of the following information for your area.

We have again seen an increase in the theft of plant pots and other garden ornaments, particularly in front gardens. This is a usually crime trend for this time of the year and we would like to warning you to secure any desirable objects in the hope that we can prevent any further crime. If you can secure them to an object that cannot be move, such as a wall or a fence then do so. There have also been incidents in previous years where solar light have been taken, they are usually just stuck in the ground with a spike and easy to remove, consider cementing them into the ground.

If you have any information in connection with any of these messages or you would like to talk to anyone please call Lorraine on 01622 604395.
