Ticket to ride gets more flexible

New fares and more flexible tickets have been launched by Maidstone council to encourage more people to use its Park & Ride buses.

Last year Maidstone Borough Council did a survey to find out why some people didn’t use the service and what initiatives might make them give up their cars and come into the town centre on the Park & Ride buses.

The results concluded that people wanted more discounts and more flexible tickets.

As a result Maidstone council has replaced the weekly ticket with a new 10-trip ticket that can be used whenever people like. The cost is just £10 for 10 single tickets, giving the public a discount of £2.50.

This new scheme provides great value, helps people who travel less frequently and can be used for more than one adult – you just have to have each person’s journey clipped.

The council is also encouraging car sharing by introducing a new Saturday price, of £1 return, for adults travelling together. This fare will last until October, 2009. Adults on a single journey still have to pay £1.50 on a Saturday.

The discounted Saturday ticket will help keep cars off the road and ease congestion on what is one of the busiest days for people who come to Maidstone to shop.

Changes to peak fares include an increase by 25%, including peak return, 12-weekly and annual seasons.

All changes will start from Monday, February 2, 2009.
